Code of Conduct, Standards and Requirements
Tanya’s Beauty School is committed to providing a learning environment that is entirely free of discrimination, violence, and bullying. Each student needs and deserves to learn within a caring, responsive, and safe environment. Violence, disruptive behavior and abusive language are unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Our school works to ensure that all students have the opportunity and support to develop to their fullest potential while sharing positive personal interactions within in the school community.
You are a vital part of promoting this positive learning environment, for yourself and for those around you. All students are responsible for behaving, speaking and relating to others respectfully and with consideration at all times.
Open and respectful communication is essential to promoting a positive environment in school and in the workplace. Please keep the following suggestions in mind as you engage in activities at school and elsewhere.
- If you have any questions, please do not be afraid to ask. Asking questions and listening carefully to the answers is one of the most effective ways to learn.
- If you need help, be sure to let your instructor or the school staff know. They will be happy to work with you, and you will benefit from obtaining appropriate assistance.
- We are open to suggestions and constructive criticism and appreciate your feedback.
- Achieving success involves everyone’s cooperation and working together toward our mutual positive goals.
Important:
- The violation of any of the rules and standards described below may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination from school.
- The school reserves the right to terminate any student whose personal conduct towards clients, school staff or fellow students is deemed unacceptable.
- Re-admittance to the school will be at the school director’s discretion.
- Termination applies to all school programs and facilities.
A. Breaks & lunches
Your instructors will schedule breaks & lunches. Students are responsible for returning to class promptly after breaks. Tardiness reflects on student records.
Important note: Food and drinks are permitted only in the school’s designated break/lunch area. Food and drinks are not permitted anywhere else in the school.
B. Phone calls
The school’s business phones may only be used for personal calls with the express permission of the school director and/or an instructor. Cell phones and other electronic devices must be turned off during school hours, with use confined to the break/lunch area or outside the building during breaks and lunch.
C. Smoking
Smoking is permitted on lunch and breaks only outside the building. Smokers, please be considerate of others, and dispose of cigarette butts in designated containers.
D. Cheating
Cheating is absolutely unacceptable and will result in termination from the program.
E. Alcohol and drugs
Possession and/or use of alcohol or drugs (unless prescribed by a physician) on school property is illegal and strictly prohibited by school policy. The use of alcohol or non-prescribed drugs in any form on school premises, or at any school-related activity, will result in immediate expulsion. Students who need professional help for substance abuse may find referrals for counseling in the school director’s office.
F. Making up missed exams:
If a student misses taking a test, a make-up examination may be scheduled at the discretion of the instructor. Make-up exams are a privilege, not a right. Students should make every effort to be present on examination days. Please see Section 19 for more information about make-up exams.
G. Dress code
Personal hygiene and sanitation are the daily responsibility of every student.
A professional appearance is essential to the overall image of today’s cosmetologist, esthetician, and barber. Lab coats are required dress in the school. If a student forgets to bring a lab coat, he or she may rent one from the school for the day.
For your safety, no open-toed shoes are permitted in the school. Students must wear shoes that are either black or white.
H. Personal belongings and Student Kits
You are required to work as neatly as possible. After each work assignment, you are expected to clean the area. When not in use, Student Kits should be closed and put away. Your personal belongings should be taken home with you at the end of the school day.
The school is not responsible for missing items or belongings. Please do not leave personal belongings unattended.
I. Personal supplies and services
Students who wishing to purchase supplies or services must first obtain permission from their instructor, and all supplies and services must be paid for. If a service is performed free of charge, the service must be performed with school staff supervising.
J. Duties
A duty roster will be posted monthly for all classroom and clinic duties. This will be done on a rotating basis to be fair for all students. Your duties are an assignment and part of your training and preparation for entering the workplace. Instructors will check all duties at the end of each day.
K. Student beauty services
Students may only work on fellow-students’ hair, nails, etc. with the express permission of an instructor. The first priority for students is to complete their assignments and to stay on task with their primary responsibilities. If students are fully caught up with their work, instructors may authorize extra-curricular beauty services. Please note, however, that if you, as a student, are participating in an extra-curricular service when a client arrives, and no other student is available to service the client, you are required to put your activities on hold and serve the client promptly.
In all circumstances, attention to clients comes first. Any student who refuses or fails to provide service to a client will be subject to strong disciplinary action.
Please note: Students must never leave a client unattended under any circumstances. Doing so is highly unprofessional and poses safety and liability risks.
L. Weapons in school
Weapons of any kind are strictly forbidden on school property. Any student possessing a weapon on school property will have the weapon confiscated and turned over to the local police, and will be immediately sent home. In addition, the student may be suspended or permanently expelled from the school.
M. Parking
Parking areas in front of the school are strictly reserved for clients. Students may park at the side of the school.
N. Clocking in and out
For the safety and well-being of all students, Tanya’s Beauty School is a closed campus.
Students must clock in as soon as they arrive on campus, and, while clocked in, they must remain on the premises. If a student leaves campus without clocking out, they will be warned and may be subject to further disciplinary measures.
O. Harassment and filing complaints
The school does not tolerate the harassment of students or staff in any manner. Persons who engage in such behavior are subject to discipline up to and including termination of his her employment or education. Anyone who feels that he or she has been subjected to harassment should immediately bring it to attention of an instructor or the school staff. It is the responsibility of any staff member who receives a complaint of sexual harassment to immediately report the complaint to the school owner/director. A Review Board will meet within three business days to consider the complaint. The complainant, staff members, and any other people involved in the complaint process are requested not to discuss the complaint or any underlying facts with other persons while the issue is under advisement.
Harassment may include verbal, visual and or physical actions such as jokes, sexual innuendo, suggestive comments, verbal abuse, degrading or insulting comments, inappropriate email, text or telephone messages, the display of inappropriate objects or pictures, inappropriate gestures, physical blocking, subtle pressure, touching or any other unwelcome and unsolicited conduct based upon a characteristic protected by law.
Unlawful harassment may include conduct that is related to a legally protected characteristic that:
- Is unwelcome and unsolicited
- Requires submissions an explicit or implicit term or condition of employment
- Requires submission to or rejection of such conduct as a basis for employment or other personnel decisions
- Has the purpose or the effect of unreasonably interfering with a person’s work performance or creating an intimidating, hostile or offensive work environment
All co-employees, supervisors, managers, and students, including guests and vendors, are required to act in a manner that does not promote unlawful harassment.
